RECAP: #3 women’s rugby remain undefeated after victory over Concordia
The Gee-Gees women's rubgy team took Matt Anthony Field for a warm Saturday afternoon match against the Concordia Stingers.
While celebrating their senior class, Ottawa welcomed plenty of fans to watch the clash between two 2-0 RSEQ teams. The game ended in favour of the Gee-Gees who improved to 3-0 on the season with a 47 – 17 victory.
Sydney Noseworthy scored the opening try for the Gee-Gees, carrying the ball down half the field for the score. Aurora Bowie's first convert was clean, giving Ottawa an early 7-0 lead.
While Concordia managed to get ahead briefly, but the Gee-Gees regained control quickly.
Tries from Ketsia Kamba (25') and Alysia Comtois (30') gave Ottawa a 21-10 lead going into halftime.
Ottawa's Emma Wade was quick to add points to the board coming out of the locker room, but Concordia put up a solid fight, challenging the Gee-Gees repeatedly.
The Stingers pushed through for a score, making it 28-17 with plenty of time on the clock.
Deborah Oyetoran extended the Gee-Gees lead as she found the tryzone. Comtois followed with her second try just minutes later, and Ottawa established a 42-17 lead.
Bowie finished the game with 6 converts.
"We have a lot to look forward to in the next week, and a lot to work on," Wade said. "I'm really excited."
The Gee-Gees head across town to Carleton on Sep. 18 for a 4 p.m. kickoff before returning to Matt Anthony Field for their final home game on Sep. 21 against Bishop's.
