RECAP: #3 Gee-Gees strike down crosstown rivals in 65-5 win
The Gee-Gees took a trip across town to take on the Ravens at Carleton University on Wednesday afternoon. The 4 p.m. game saw the two Ottawa teams clash for the first time in the 2024 RSEQ season.
While the Ravens were on the hunt for their first win, it was the Garnet and Grey were dominant throughout the matchup, earning a 65-5 win to stay at the top of the RSEQ standings.
Emma Wade broke into the tryzone in the opening four minutes to give the Gee-Gees an immediate lead. Leigha Stiles followed, but the Ravens added one of their own.
While the Ravens slowed things down for a bit, the Gee-Gees went back to work. Quynh-Ni Au was next on the board, and it was Aurora Bowie who ended the half with a perfect penalty kick.
"We were really focussed on keeping up the energy and working through our systems," said Au. "It's nice to get my name on the board but everything is for the team and everything the team achieves feels like a reward to me."
Headed into the second half of action, the Gee-Gees were holding onto a 22-5 lead.
Alysia Comtois (44'), Tian Weins (49'), Mercedes Cole (54'), Ketsia Kamba (70'), Anna Dodge (74', 80') and Sydney Noseworthy (83') each found the tryzone during the second half while keeping the Ravens scoreless throughout the 40 minutes of play.
Aurora Bowie finished the game with six converts and one penalty kick.
Ottawa improves to 4-0 with the 65-5 win and will be back in action in a few short days. The Gee-Gees host the Gaiters on Saturday at 4 p.m.
