RECAP: Comtois and Dodge log three tries each in #3 women’s rugby win over Bishop’s
The Gee-Gees women's rugby team took Matt Anthony Field on Saturday afternoon for their final regular season home game of the 2024 season.
Undefeated so far, the Gee-Gees were undeniable favourites to win over the 0-2-1 Gaiters. Ottawa lived up to expectations, earning a 68-3 win.
Anna Dodge earned the first points of the game as the Gee-Gees worked their way to the tryzone.
After racing down the field to get Ottawa in the redzone, Alysia Comtois scored her first try of the day. Moments later, the Gee-Gees had the Gaiters backed up to their goal line. Comtois finished the job to score another try and extend the Gee-Gees.
Sophie McDonald added another to call the end of the first half with a 26-0 Ottawa lead.
Coming out of the half, the Gee-Gees continued to play solid rugby. Following a great run by Marley Magnusson, Leigha Stiles touched down in the middle of the tryzone.
Ottawa's passing game came alive on the next possession, and the ball worked its way across the field and into the hands of Fiona Day for another try.
Comtois found herself back in the tryzone, earning her third of the day with 20 minutes left to play.
"Alysia's impact on the team is fabulous. She's a fantastic leader and she's scoring tries, setting up tries, and is dominant in the set pieces," Ottawa head coach, Duncan McNaughton said. "She's a wonderful rugby player."
Ngozi Mosindi (62'), Dodge (69' and 79'), added tries during the remainder of the game.
Aurora Bowie finished the evening with six converts while Victoria Hough contributed two.
"Aurora is an exciting player. Her speed is a threat, and she has fabulous distribution skills," McNaughton said about the team's flyhalf.
The Gee-Gees improve to 5-0 with the 68-3 win and will look to remain undefeated as they hit the road to take on McGill next weekend.
