WEEKEND RECAP : Gee-Gees earn six points with eight-goal weekend
Emma Lefebvre leads Gee-Gees to wins against Trent and UOIT, scoring six goals along the way.
The Gee-Gees women's soccer team continued to flex its scoring muscle this weekend, notching 4-0 and 4-1 wins over Trent and UOIT. The wins move nationally no. 9 ranked Ottawa (3-0-1) into first place in the OUA East. Emma Lefebvre had an incredible pair of games, scoring twice on Saturday and then filling the net four times on Sunday.
The third-year nursing student from Kingston, Ont. leads the OUA in scoring with six goals and three assists, and has already set a new career high in both goals and points.
The Gee-Gees as a team have now scored 14 goals and allowed just two through four games to start the regular season; the next closest team has scored eight goals.
The victory on Sunday came on the road against a UOIT Ridgebacks team which had gone 14-0-2 in 2017 and 13-2-1 in 2016, topping the OUA East both seasons. Lefebvre struck early, opening the scoring in the twelfth minute of play. She added another before halftime and then provided an insurance marker just two minutes into the second half. UOIT pulled to 3-1 before Lefebvre's final goal at the 81 minute mark assured the win for Ottawa. The Gee-Gees outshot the Ridgebacks by a 20-7 margin.
On Saturday, Lefebvre set up the opening goal of the match which was finished by Mikayla Morton. Delaney Rickert-Hall converted a penalty kick to give Ottawa a 2-0 lead at the half. Lefebvre then began her scoring streak in the second half, lifting the Gee-Gees to the 4-0 win.
NEXT UP: The Gee-Gees hit the road for a third straight week, travelling to take on Ryerson (1-1-1) and Toronto (2-0-1) for Saturday and Sunday contests. The game at Toronto will be webcast on OUA.tv with kickoff set for 1 p.m.
