Ottawa (11-1-1) pulled through for a hard fought 1-0 victory over UOIT (7-5-2) on a chilly afternoon at Matt Anthony Field.
The Gee-Gees controlled possession for the majority of the game and pushed the pace of play against the third place Ridgebacks. However, the Gee-Gees struggled to make the final breakthrough pass through the Ridgebacks back line.
"We weren't as aggressive going forward as we could have been but, credit to UOIT in how they set their team up," said head coach Steve Johnson.
Ottawa launched 13 shots on net at goalie Victoria Savage but couldn't get one past her until the 57th minute when Delaney Rickert-Hall found space and fired a beautiful shot from outside 22 yards, catching Savage off the goal line.
Ottawa goalie Margot Shore had a quiet afternoon facing only 5 shots but came up big when it counted, when in the last 10 minutes of the game a UOIT attacker got through on goal chasing a pass but, Shore rushed out of the net to beat her to the ball and smother it.
Johnson concluded "UOIT is a tough opponent and to shut them out is a credit to the way the team is trying to play."
The Gee-Gees look to keep their current five-game winning streak alive on October 14 at 1 p.m. against Trent (2-8-4) on Gee-Gees Field.
