uOttawa scored in the first half on a goal from Katherine Bearne, her sixth of the season, as Ottawa (13-1-1) beat the Royal Military College Paladins (1-13-1) 1-0 at Gee-Gees Field. The win is the seventh straight for the Garnet and Grey, who entered the final weekend of regular season play ranked no. 3 in the U SPORTS Top Ten.
The wind was a major factor in the game with balls played into the air taking unpredictable turns. This forced the game to be played on the ground, slowing the pace. With the wind and the change in tactics from both teams, the game lacked flow with the Garnet and Grey going offside numerous times.
The Gee-Gees held the majority of possession and didn't allow a single shot as the Paladins goalkeeper Claudia Rusu faced 22 shots, 7 of which were on target. The abundance of possession lead to multiple chances, including the ball being in the back of the net on three separate occasions but, being called back on the aforementioned offsides.
The goal came off great team passing, ending with a Kayla Da Costa-Pacheco pass being slotted into the back of the net by Bearne just inside the 18-yard box.
The Gee-Gees now look forward to their game against the nationally no. 10 ranked Queen's Gaels (8-2-4) to finish the regular season at 1 p.m. at Gee-Gees Field.
