RECRUIT PROFILE: Trinity Esprit boosts speed of the Gee-Gees for 2019
The Scarborough, Ont. defender brings a fantastic element of athleticism and speed to an already talent-rich Gee-Gees team.
The Gee-Gees women's soccer team is proud to announce another addition for the 2019 season with the commitment of Trinity Esprit. The Scarborough, Ont. defender brings a fantastic element of athleticism and speed to an already talent-rich Gee-Gees team.
Esprit began playing soccer in her hometown at just four years old and fell in love with the game shortly after, not just from playing it, but also from watching her father and older brother play the game.
Esprit has played with multiple clubs and teams in the past, but has made her home with the Unionville Milliken Soccer Club of League1 Ontario for the past three years and will continue to play with them this season as well. In the past year, Esprit also spent time with clubs in France and had the opportunity to train with both men's and women's teams, which she believed has helped elevate her game.
"The level of training there is way different from what it is in Canada, in terms of how often they go and the intensity," she said. "It was a good experience in general, and I was able to take that and put it into my game back home."
Esprit believes that her different experiences within the sport and her passion for the game, will allow her to mesh well with the current roster. Esprit is set to make an impact for a position group that is losing key talent and speed in Kayla Da Costa-Pacheco from last year's national championship roster.
While joining the reigning champs brings a certain amount of pressure that some may not be able to handle, Esprit is looking forward to the challenge.
"I'm very excited to be honest," she said. "For me, when there are high expectations I push myself to be better. So coming into this situation gives a clear goal for me to try and win another championship while I'm here."
Making the choice to come to uOttawa was an easy one for Esprit, as it was her first choice of all the schools she applied for. Specifically, Esprit was attracted to the sociology program as her goal right now is to get into the social work field specializing in working with children and families when she is finished school. Esprit is hoping to continue to improve her proficiency in French, which she has taken all throughout her time in high school.
Overall, Esprit says she that is excited to join a team that plays so well together and has experienced success, and is also looking forward to transitioning her life to Ottawa and seeing all of what the nation's capital has to offer in her career.
Down the road, Esprit possibly has her sights set on returning to Europe after seeing the what the pro world has to offer in the past year.
