The U SPORTS third-ranked Gee-Gees women's soccer team had a dominant first road trip of the 2021 season, improving their record to 3-0 with wins over Ontario Tech and Trent.
On Saturday, the Gee-Gees were in Oshawa to take on the Ridgebacks, in what is typically a tightly contested match, Ottawa powered to a 5-1 victory.
First-year forward Nibo Dlamini scored her second goal of the season to open the game in the 15th minute. Ontario Tech would respond early in the second half with their lone goal of the game, it stands as the only goal the Gee-Gees have conceded thus far this season.
In the 53rd minute, the floodgates opened for Ottawa, with second-year defender Trinity Esprit scoring her first of the season. Three more goals followed in rapid succession for the Gee-Gees to close out the win. Hailey Walsh added her first of the season in the 68th minute, followed up by Emma Lefebvre's second of the year, and Soumaya Bouak's first of the 2021 campaign.
In all, the Gee-Gees outshot the Ridgebacks 24-5 in the win to earn their second victory of the young season.
On Sunday, the Garnet and Grey moved on to take on Trent, earning a dominant 5-0 win following an explosive second half effort. Emma Lefebvre and Cassandra Provost shined bright on a rainy afternoon in Peterborough, with the two combining for all five of the Gee-Gees' scores in the game.
A competitive first 45 minutes saw the Gee-Gees in control of possession for the majority of the first frame, but despite several opportunities, they were unable to find the scoreboard.
In the 56th minute, Lefebvre broke the game open, scoring her second of the weekend and third in as many games. The Gee-Gees would go on to make the match a blowout when Provost scored her first of the season heading home a corner kick in the 69th minute. Just over four minutes later, Provost repeated her previous feat for her second of the game.
Two minutes later in the 75th minute, Provost was fouled inside the box and the Gee-Gees were awarded a penalty kick, which Lefebvre struck home to give Ottawa the 4-0 lead. Lefebvre's outstanding weekend was not finished quite yet however, as she added a hat-trick goal in the 80th minute to cap the game off.
Dlamini and defender Maya Smith added assists on the first and final goals, while Adriane Devlin was responsible for the two corner kicks that resulted in goals. Goalkeeper Cassidy Joslin earned her second clean sheet of the season in the win.
The Gee-Gees will now gear up for a home-and-home pair of games with the Carleton Ravens. With the first game set at Matt Anthony Field on Saturday, Oct. 9 at 1 p.m., followed by the second game at Carleton on Thanksgiving Monday at 3 p.m.
