Olivia Allen and Cassandra Provost recorded hat tricks on consecutive days as the fifth-ranked Gee-Gees women's soccer team swept their road trip this weekend.
Ottawa shutout Ontario Tech 6-0 at Vaso's Field in Oshawa on Saturday, and then beat Trent 4-1 at Justin Chiu Stadium in Peterborough the next day.
Allen, a first year Biomedical Science student from Holland Landing, Ont., continued a strong start to her freshman campaign by finding the back of the net three times against the Ridgebacks.
Despite Allen's goal scoring prowess, the highlight of the game belonged to Soumaya Bouak. The veteran midfielder backheel flicked a cross from Adriane Devlin to Allen, who made no mistake finding the back of the net. Bouak now leads Ottawa with three assists on the season.
The goal scoring was buttressed by a Nibo Dlamini penalty kick and two second half goals from Ella Chase and Provost.
If Allen stole the headlines against the Ridgebacks, it was the country's leading scorer's turn against the Excalibur. Provost netted three times, bringing her goal total on the season to 10.
The second-year accounting student from Acton Vale, Que., now has four more goals than the next closest player in the OUA and two more than anyone else in the country. UBC Thunderbirds Danielle Steer and Katalin Tolnai each have eight, but UBC has played more games than the Gee-Gees.
Provost also setup Chase's game-winner in the 35th minute.
Ottawa (5-1-1) now finds themselves in second position in the OUA East, two points back of the Toronto Varsity Blues (6-1-0).
The Gee-Gees now shift their focus to their home-and-home rivalry series with the Carleton Ravens (3-1-1). The teams will battle at Matt Anthony Field on Thursday, Sept. 29 at 7:00 p.m. before the return leg at TAAG Park on Sunday, Oct. 2 at 1:00 p.m. Tickets for the Thursday game are on sale at tickets.geegees.ca. Both matches will be streamed on OUA.tv.
