RECAP: Provost earns hat trick for #2 women’s soccer during undefeated road swing 

The Gee-Gees earned a 3-2 win over the University of Toronto and a 5-1 win over Toronto Metropolitan University during their first road trip of the season. 

On Friday evening, the Gee-Gees were under the lights of Varsity Stadium.  

Defences were tested in the opening half, and there was no lack of physicality on either side of the ball. Ottawa's best scoring chances were generated by Katie Brzozowski's corner kicks, but no goals were scored in the first 45 minutes. 

Not even a minute into the second half, Cassandra Provost earned her first of the weekend. Shortly after, she found another, capitalizing on a mistake by the Toronto goalkeeper.  

The 2-0 lead didn't last long. Toronto scored their first goal of the season with a well-placed penalty kick. 

Gabrielle Ferland scored her first goal in the Garnet and Grey with the help of a corner kick by Nibo Dlamini, giving the Gee-Gees a cushion heading into extra time. The goal proved to be necessary as a long shot by the Varsity Blues brought the game within one. There wasn't enough time to do much else, and Ottawa earned a 3-2 win.  

At Downsview Park, the Gee-Gees met the Bold on Sunday afternoon.  

It was all Ottawa in the first half. In the 11^th minute, Provost managed to tap the ball in just past the TMU goalkeeper. Only 10 minutes later, Oriente showcased her strength, nailing the ball off the post and in the net with a shot from beyond the box. Provost added a third goal, heading in a free kick from Dlamini. 

The Bold scored a goal of their own, but another free kick turned into a goal for the Gee-Gees. Dlamini sent the towards the net, where Maya Smith emerged from the pack, scoring for Ottawa. 

The second half only offered a single goal. With a free kick opportunity, Adriane Delvin sent the ball over the TMU defence, placed perfectly for Provost to deflect in at the 77^th minute. The goal completed Provost's hat trick and marked her fifth score of the weekend.  

The 5-1 win means the Gee-Gees remain undefeated to begin the season, sweeping their first weekend on the road. 

With an upcoming bye week, the Gee-Gees don't play again until Sep. 24, where they will welcome one of their biggest rivals, the Queen's Gaels, to Matt Anthony Field. Tickets are available on https://teams.geegees.ca/tickets.
