The Gee-Gees women's soccer team had an exciting weekend as they hosted the #8 Nipissing Lakers before hitting the road to face the Ontario Tech Ridgebacks.
Friday night's matchup painted an incredible scene for a historic moment on Matt Anthony Field. Under the lights, against a nationally ranked opponent, with a high energy crowd behind her, Cassandra Provost logged a hat trick against the Lakers to tie Pilar Khoury's 58 career goals, tying the program record.
"I'm really proud of myself and of the team," Provost said. "I've worked a long time to score that goal, I am very proud to tie this record."
Nibo Dlamini (34') and Sabrina Mangiaracina (90') added goals of their own, making it a 5-0 in favour of the Gee-Gees.
That marked the final regular season home game on the Gee-Gees schedule. On Sunday, they took to Vaso's Field for a matchup with the Ridgebacks.
It wasn't until the 58th minute of play that a goal was scored. A nice cross from Nibo Dlamini gave Eva Bouity a direct line to the goal. Her kick sent the ball above the Ontario Tech Keeper, giving the Gee-Gees a 1-0 lead.
Allana Oriente drove the next two goals. Scoring the first herself (70'), the next came from Oriente's corner kick and off the boot of Elianne Gervais for the goal (76').
Nibo Dlamini added one to the score with a penalty kick (80').
Nearing the end of regulation minutes, Ontario Tech managed to sneak one through. It didn't mean much as the official called the end of the game only moments later.
The 4-1 win improves the Gee-Gees record to 8-1 as they head into the final three regular season games.
