Provost and Smith selected to All-Canadian Teams, Donohue All-Rookie
Cassandra Provost and Maya Smith were the Gee-Gees representatives selected to the 2024 U SPORTS All-Canadian teams for women's soccer as the national award winners were announced Wednesday in Halifax. Ava Donohue was also recognized as a member of the U SPORTS All-Rookie team.
Provost led the OUA and ranked third in U SPORTS with 13 goals scored this season. The fourth-year striker from Acton Vale, Que., added two assists to her points total, tying for fifth in the national points leaders. This marks the third All-Canadian selection for Provost.
Maya Smith was selected to the Second Team of All-Canadians, marking the first selection for the fourth-year centre back from Ottawa. A two-time OUA First Team All-Star, Smith led the way for Ottawa's strong back line which allowed just four goals against in regular season play, ranking third nationally with a goal against average of 0.36.
Another key member of the Gee-Gees defensive performance this season was Ava Donohue, a speedy wing back from London, Ont. Donohue started nine of Ottawa's 12 regular season games and continued to start in the three OUA postseason matches and showed her ability to move forward and stretch the field.
The Gee-Gees earned their third consecutive OUA Conference championship and are seeded third in the U SPORTS National Championship tournament which begins Thursday, November 7 at Wickwire Field on the campus of Dalhousie University.
