Although pressed in the second set of action, the uOttawa women's volleyball team completed the three set sweep of the RMC Paladins on Friday evening in Kingston, moving their regular season record to 8-0.
Ottawa maintained a steady attacking percentage throughout the match, but had to deal with a much improved RMC attack in the second set. In the second, the Paladins took a slim lead at 13-11 thanks to a mini-run with fourth year Kelsey Chang serving three straight points. Ottawa made up the difference in the middle of the set with Kelsie English back to serve, restoring the Gee-Gee lead at the 18 point mark. The teams then traded points back and forth until Ottawa grabbed a 25-22 set win.
The opening and closing sets were much more lopsided, as Christina Grail led the charge out of the gate with the team earning nine straight points while she served the opening round of the match. Grail again stood back to serve ten straight points to open the third set. The Gee-Gees landed six service aces, with two each to Veronique Caya and Alix Durivage, and one to Grail.
Karina Krueger Schwanke led the Gee-Gees in points for the seventh straight contest, earning 13 points from 12 kills and one solo block. She also contributed with six digs and an assist, and continues to lead the CIS in points per set.
"For the team, the focus now is to get some rest, take advantage of an important day of prep and get ready to play York on Sunday in the biggest match of the semester," said Gee-Gee bench boss Lionel Woods.
The showdown between the OUA's unbeaten teams will take place at 2 p.m. on Sunday afternoon at uOttawa's Montpetit Hall.
