Weekend Recap: Gee-Gees fall to Citidans and #7 Martlets
On Thursday night, the Gee-Gees women’s volleyball team faced off against the UQAM Citidans at Montpetit Hall. Despite a solid effort, the Gee-Gees were unable to earn their first win of 2019, dropping the contest 3-0.

The first set of the game was tight, with both teams going back-and-forth, the Gee-Gees started off strong establishing a lead and holding it 16-13. The Citadans started charging back, tying the set at 20-20, ultimately UQAM was able to establish a lead and won the set by a narrow 25-23 margin.
UQAM continued to push through the early stages of the second set, the Citadins led the set 16-13 at the timeout. The rest of the set remained tight, but the Citadins once again pulled away to come out on top 25-18.
In the third set, the Gee-Gees once again started off hot, only for the Citadins to battle back a final time. The Gee-Gees held the lead until UQAM tied the set 20-20, ultimately, they fell short as the Citadins won the third and final set with 25-22.
Fifth-year captain Caroline Lemay had an impressive match with 12 kills, following closely behind was fourth-year Kara Hayes with five kills.
On Sunday afternoon, the Gee-Gees looked to rebound against the U SPORTS seventh-ranked McGill Martlets. In the first set, Gee-Gees led through the early stages, but were unable to fend off a McGill onslaught as they pulled ahead and eventually took the set 25-15.
The Martlets led most of the second set until the Gee-Gees caught up, making the end of the second an extremely close affair. In a quick turn of event the Martlets turned a tie into a 25-23 win.
McGill was set on closing the game in the third, until Gee-Gees took over and established a lead, eventually winning another tightly contested set by a 25-23 margin.
After a powerful start to the set, the Martlets cruised to a win in the fourth set, winning it 25-10 to lock up the 3-1 result. Third-year middle blocker Dana Bulloch had 10 kills in the match and only registered two errors.
Up next, the Gee-Gees are in Quebec City to take on the Laval Rouge et Or for two matches on Friday and Saturday. The two teams have not met since the Gee-Gees earned their first win of the season on Nov. 25.
