The Gee-Gees women's volleyball team had their two graduating fifth-year seniors honoured as Second Team RSEQ All-Stars last week. Caroline LeMay and Sabrina Roy received the honours for the third consecutive season to close their illustrious five years in the program.
LeMay, who has proven herself to be on of the conference's most dominant outside hitters, had a memorable final season for the Gee-Gees. LeMay finished third in the RSEQ in kills per set with 3.03, and fourth in total kills with 215. Her total kills number was an improvement from her 212 last season despite playing 10 less sets. LeMay set new career-highs in service aces (26), digs (219), and digs per set (3.08). The Rockland, Ont. native led the team in points with 257.5, scoring more than the team's next highest scorer by 68 points. This year, LeMay closed off her Bachelor of Commerce degree in Accounting.
Roy, the Gee-Gees' long-standing libero, who has demonstrated her energetic spark, leadership, and defensive prowess for her entire career was as solid as ever in her final season. Roy continued impressive numbers in digs per set, finishing third in the RSEQ and eighteenth in the nation with 3.66. In total digs, Roy racked up 256 over the season which was good enough for sixth in the conference. This season, the Ottawa native finished her Bachelors of Education.
The pair closes their time at the University of Ottawa as decorated players on the court and respected leaders across the Gee-Gees community.
Through their first two seasons in Garnet and Grey, the pair were members of a Gee-Gees team in OUA Championship contention, going to a U SPORTS National Championship tournament in their first year. A conference change to the RSEQ in 2016 shifted the team into an intense and competitive conference with some of the nation's best teams. In their senior years, Roy and LeMay ensured a passing on of culture to the next generation of Gee-Gees who currently fill the team's young roster.
