Women’s volleyball holding Pre-Season Classic for first time since 2019
The largest U SPORTS preseason women's volleyball tournament in Canada is back following a two-year hiatus.
The Gee-Gees Pre-Season Classic returns for 2022. The annual tournament welcomes 10 teams to Montpetit Hall, with all four U SPORTS conferences represented. The 2022 edition of the tournament runs Sept. 30 through Oct. 2. Tickets for the tournament can be purchased at tickets.geegees.ca.
COVID-19 forced the cancellation of the tournament in 2020 and 2021. Those were the only times the tournament was cancelled dating back to its inception in 1983 – save for 2001 when an ice storm forced the tournament to be called off.
Atlantic University Sport will be represented by their two top regular season finishers from last season; Dalhousie and Saint Mary's. McMaster, Guelph and Toronto from the OUA will be in the nation's capital, the latter of whom finished in fifth place at the 2022 U SPORTS National Championship.
In addition to Ottawa, UQAM and Montreal will be representing the RSEQ, while Canada West will feature UBCO and Thompson Rivers University making their first appearance at the Classic.

McMaster and Sherbrooke are the most successful schools in the history of the Gee-Gees Pre-Season Classic, having won it six times apiece. Ottawa are three-time champions, having most recently won in 2014. Manitoba are the defending champions.
All matches will take place at Montpetit Hall on the campus of the University of Ottawa (125 University Private).
