Bio

Kaly Soro served as the Gee-Gees women’s volleyball program’s full-time head assistant coach from June 2020 to May 2023. She has since moved to a Mentor Coach and Recruiting Assistant role as she takes on a new, full-time position with ABC Fighters Basketball Club in Abidjan, Cote d'Ivoire, and the Milédou Basketball Organization in Togo.

While with the Gee-Gees, Soro played a vital role in advancing the uOttawa Recreation and Varsity Athletics' Anti-Racism Plan and has been a driving force in the creation and early impact of the Black Student-Athletes Advocacy Council.  

Prior to accepting the head assistant coach role, Soro gained experience as a volunteer assistant with the Gee-Gees during the 2019-20 season, as an instructor with Maverick Volleyball in Ottawa and by working as a coach at Gee-Gees Summer Camps. She previous served as the High Performance Coordinator for Gee-Gees Competitive Sport Clubs within Varsity Athletics. 

Originally from Vancouver, Soro enjoyed a remarkable playing career with the Gee-Gees. In five seasons (2013-18), she helped the program to two U SPORTS National Championship appearances, and was named to the 2015-16 OUA Second All-Star Team and the 2013-14 OUA All-Rookie Team. Away from the Gee-Gees, Soro was a member of Team Ontario at the 2013 Canada Games and was a standout soccer player.
