Preview: Cross Country heads to Sherbrooke
The Gee-Gees cross country team competes this Saturday at Université de Sherbrooke on the campus home of the Vert et Or.
Sherbrooke had the top men's individual finisher at the season's opening meet; Thomas Windisch was the only university competitor to finish ahead of Ottawa's André Alie-Lamarche.
The key for the Ottawa men will be to hold off the remainder of the Vert et Or finishers as they did two weeks ago to earn a 20-point gap in the final team standings. Meanwhile, they will look to overtake the Laval Rouge et Or who won the men's event at McGill over Ottawa by just one point.
The Gee-Gees women will also be focusing on the Vert et Or as Sherbrooke runners finished just ahead of the Gee-Gees competitors at McGill. The team scores were 10-18-21-30-32 for Sherbrooke and 12-24-33-37-45 for Ottawa.
This weekend's races will be an extra kilometer long at 7km for the men and 5km for the women as the teams ramp up for the U SPORTS National Championships where the teams will be running 10km (men) and 8km (women).
