RECAP: Gee-Gees men win Capital XC Challenge
The Gee-Gees competed against McGill, Concordia, RMC, and Carleton, as well as local club athletes, with the men's team finishing clearly in first place overall.
The Gee-Gees had a beautiful day for running at the annual Capital XC Challenge on Saturday and rose to the occasion with some solid team results. The Gee-Gees competed against student-athletes from McGill, Concordia, RMC, and Carleton, as well as local club athletes, with the men's team finishing clearly in first place overall. The uOttawa women were edged by the narrowest of margins and finished second overall. Both events were 6km loops around Mooney's Bay, finishing at the Terry Fox Athletic Facility.
For the men, André Alie-Lamarche was the top uOttawa finisher with a third place result and a time of 19:01. He was followed by Adrian Fournier in sixth (1:39.40) who was just .03 seconds ahead of the seventh place finisher from McGill. Then came Mitchell Roberts and Stephen Robinson in 8th and 9th, respectively, although the pair were 15 seconds apart. There were 75 competitors in the men's event.
Rebecca Brennan placed third overall and first among the University reps, finishing three seconds ahead of McGill's top finisher. However, McGill edged Ottawa by one point in the women's team standings, 48 to 49. Also in the top ten for the Ottawa women's team were Keili Shepherd at seventh, and Maeliss Trapeau in tenth. 48 women completed the course, with Gee-Gees placing all in the top 18.
