Fournier fastest for Garnet and Grey at OUA
The Gee-Gees cross country team competed in the 2021 OUA Championships on Saturday, November 6 at Thames Valley Golf Course in London, Ont., and finished eighth in the men's team standings and tenth in the women's team standings.
Adrian Fournier was the team's top finisher, placing 26th with a time of 26:26 over the eight kilometre course. A third-year Gee-Gee and civil engineering student from Ottawa, Fournier has had a strong season overall for the Garnet and Grey and his placing is the second-best individual result for the program at the OUA Championship since 2004.
Following Fournier on the men's side as André Alie-Lamarche who crossed the finish line in 37th position with a time of 27:04. Nicholas Abanto Enns and Stephen Robinson crossed together at 27:49 in 50th and 51st position, respectively, and Gavin Westbrook had the final team score in 81st position in the field of 102 competitors. The Gee-Gees edged Laurier and Laurentian in the standings, with just four points separating the three men's teams.
For the young Gee-Gees women's team, first-year Skye Pellerin was the top finisher in 52nd position, with a time of 33:37. Pellerin was the last of a group of eleven runners who crossed with times in the thirty-three minute range, with a gap of almost 30 seconds behind her until the next runners crossed. Among the next to finish was second-year Gee-Gee Tiarra Ward in 54th with a time of 34:14, and first-year Kylee Fowler at 34:39 to grab 61st place.
Elana Tyman and Audrey McCarthy completed the women's team scoring, finishing in 71st and 74th position, respectively.
Nikita Neyshtadt, Nathan Meraw, and Kylie Crawford also represented the Gee-Gees at the event, but did not score times for the team scores. Full results are available online by clicking here.
