Bio

Denis Harbic was a lifetime member of the uOttawa family, starting his affiliation with the university in 1934 and eventually retiring in 1983 after nearly 50 years of service.

The Hawkesbury product was an all-star basketball and football player at U of O, and was a member of the 1937 and 1939 championship-winning football teams. 

He earned a Bachelor of Arts and a Bachelor of Science in 1943 snd then enlisted in the Canadian Army. He went on to become a professor, athletic director, and chairman of the university athletic advisory board. Notably, when he was named Director of Athletics in 1948 he was the first "layperson" to hold the position of athletics director as the position was previously held by Fathers of the church. 

As part of his lengthy term as athletic director, Harbic was a founder of the Panda Game and oversaw the hiring of Matt Anthony as head coach. His name was on the Tip-Off Tournament Trophy for the men's basketball team.

Harbic was inducted to Gee-Gees Hall of Fame on April 27th 1996, and assed away in 1998 at the age of 77. He celebrated 50 years of marriage in 1997 with his wife, Helen.
