RECAP: #7 Gee-Gees struggle against #2 Ryerson

The U SPORTS seventh-ranked Gee-Gees men's basketball were outmatched against the second-ranked Ryerson Rams in a 89-58 loss in Toronto on Sunday afternoon. The loss was only the Gee-Gees third of the regular season their first since early November. Ottawa's third-place standing in the OUA East remains unaffected after the loss, they now hold a record of 9-3.

 
The result allowed many different players to register points on the night, with nine Gee-Gees finding the score sheet, however only three in double digits. First-year forward Guillaume Pépin led with 13 points, six rebounds, and five assists. Point guards Calvin Epistola and Kevin Civil posted 12 and 10 point performances respectively.
 
The ball simply couldn't find its way into the hoop for the Gee-Gees, who shot a harrowing 25.7 per cent from the field. While both teams struggled greatly from beyond the arc, the Rams still squeaked out a one per cent higher rating at 22.2 to 21.6 for the Garnet and Grey. The key stat broke the Gee-Gees was the Rams scoring 62 of their points in the paint, oversizing and overmatching the Ottawa bigs throughout.
 
A slow start had the Gee-Gees behind handily in the first quarter, a deficit they were never able to overcome as the Rams continued to apply the pressure for the remainder of the game. The Rams built their lead up as high as 36 in the fourth quarter, and were led by Myles Charvis, who had 17 points in the win.

 
Ottawa will be on the road once again next weekend as they travel to Northern Ontario to take on Nipissing and Laurentian on Friday and Saturday.
