The Gee-Gees men's basketball team capped off a perfect start to their season with two wins against Toronto on the weekend. Rolling through their preseason slate and first six OUA regular season games, the Gee-Gees sit with an 12-0 overall record on the 2021-22 season.
In the weekend's first matchup, Ottawa secured an 82-71 victory over Toronto in their Home Opener at the Goldring Centre.
Building their lead as high as 24 points in the third quarter, the Gee-Gees fended off a comeback push from the hosts. In the end, Ottawa was able to close off the 11-point win.
Guillaume Pépin led the way for the Gee-Gees, posting 20 points and 8 rebounds. Other Gee-Gees in double-figures were Quincy Louis-Jeune (16 pts. / 3 reb. / 3 stl.) and Maxime Boursiquot (16 pts. / 5 reb.).
In all, Ottawa outrebounded the Blues 41-27 on the evening, scoring 30 points in the paint, while Toronto's bench players produced 56 of their points.
On Saturday, the Gee-Gees were able to close the semester undefeated, winning 61-53 in a closer affair.
Paced once again by Pépin's 16 points, the Gee-Gees logged their lowest scoring outing of the season thus far. Conversely, Ottawa's defence limited their opponents to their second lowest points-against total this year.
Third-year point guard Kevin Civil logged 13 points and five rebounds off of the bench for his season high. Josh Inkumsah also contributed 11 rebounds for a new career-high in the win.
Up next, the Gee-Gees will get a chance to rest and refocus on their studies through the exam and holiday break, all while preparing for a marquee matchup with Carleton in the New Year. The Bytown Battle is set for Jan. 8 at Montpetit Hall.
