PLAYOFF PREVIEW: #2 men’s basketball slated for battle with #10 TMU in OUA semifinal
The #2 University of Ottawa men's basketball team is set to play host to the #10 TMU Bold in the OUA semifinal at Montpetit Hall on Saturday night.
Following a commanding 81-50 win over the Laurentian Voyageurs in the OUA quarterfinal, Ottawa is looking to continue their chase for the OUA championship against a hungry TMU squad.
The Bold took their quarterfinal matchup with a convincing score of 101-78 over the Western Mustangs. Earlier in the season, the Bold suffered an 86-64 loss to the Gee-Gees and will need to bring their best to the OUA semifinal contest.
In their November meeting with the Bold, both Ankit Choudhary and Jacques-Mélaine Guemeta logged 20-point games. On the other end of the court, it was Javier Gilgeous-Glasgow, Aaron Rhooms, and Jahcobi Neath who led the way for TMU.
In the OUA quarterfinal, Choudhary recorded the game high 19 points against Laurentian, Guemeta followed closely with 16 points, adding seven rebounds and two steals in the effort. The Bold will be looking to minimize the impact of Choudhary and Guemeta while remaining aware of the Gee-Gees' weapons throughout their lineup.
TMU's quarterfinal win saw 20+ point performances from three players, Maxime Louis-Jean, Gilgeous-Glasgow, and Rhooms were unstoppable, combining for 65 points. The Bold scored 21 points off Western's 14 turnovers and will aim to catch Ottawa on their heels in Saturday's matchup.
The OUA quarterfinal is scheduled for Mar. 1 at 8:00pm. Tickets are available https://www.showpass.com/gee-gees-basketball-m/
