Following a successful preseason trip in Germany, the Gee-Gees men's hockey team continues to prepare for the regular season with a slate of exhibition games on North American soil.
"I think it's all part of the evaluation process, preparation, and establishing a type of game and fitness level that we want for our regular season," said head coach Patrick Grandmaître. "We get to see some players battling to be in our opening day lineup, that's part of preseason seeing who will take the last couple spots and how physically ready can we be for game one."
Last weekend, the team travelled for a pair of games against the Windsor Lancers, dropping the first game 3-1, then winning 10-2 the following night.
The Gee-Gees will host the University of Toronto this weekend in a Saturday matinee game—their final tune-up ahead of the season opener at McGill.
On October 6, the team will close out their exhibition schedule with a trip to Penn State to take on the Nittany Lions. The teams most recently met in 2017, with Quinn O'Brien scoring the winner in a 4-3 overtime thriller.
With six new additions complementing the veteran core of fourth-year players, chemistry on the team is already high.
"They're used to a certain dynamic, the tight-knit group is pretty well established," Grandmaître said. "We've done things a certain way since day one and we have a really good group."
Tickets for the preseason game against the University of Toronto and the home opener against Western on October 18 are available now at tickets.geegees.ca.
