The Gee-Gees women’s rugby team wasted no time putting up points against the Sherbrooke Vert et Or in the RSEQ semifinal
The Gee-Gees women's rugby team wasted no time putting up points against the Sherbrooke Vert et Or in the RSEQ semifinal on Friday night at Matt Anthony Field. Ottawa quickly established its lead over an outmatched Sherbrooke squad, and advanced to the RSEQ with a final score of 73-0.
The Gee-Gees came out fast and physical as they took a commanding 29-0 lead around the halfway point of the first half. The win was a great team effort that saw nine different scorers for the twelve tries. Great individual efforts by Michaela Haley (3) and Tori Wyman (2) gave them multiple scores. Recently announced RSEQ Rookie of the Year Claire Gallagher also kicked five conversions and a penalty kick.
The win also clinched Ottawa's spot at the upcoming U SPORTS National Championships. The team will make its fifth consecutive appearance at the nationals, which are set for November 1-4 at Acadia University.
First, Ottawa will host the winner of the second RSEQ semfinal match between Laval and Carleton for the RSEQ final on Friday the 26 of October. The Gee-Gees have won the RSEQ conference banner the last four seasons on home field. Laval and Carleton play on Saturday, October 20 at 1 p.m. in Quebec City.
