RECAP: Women’s rugby wins big over Sherbrooke

After opening the season with a 22-22 draw against Sherbrooke earlier in the month, the Gee-Gees women's rugby team was determined to ensure a similar result wouldn't unfold on their home turf.
The Garnet and Grey notched a try within the first five minutes, and never trailed in the contest, as they took the game by a score of 44-7 over the Vert et Or.
"It feels good, obviously we try not to think about results, we're process-driven, we had a good week in practice and we executed a lot of the things we needed to do," said head coach Jen Boyd following the game.
Maddie Grant, a first-year back row from Cornwall, Ont., paced the offence for the Gee-Gees with four tries over the course of the game. Her first try of the day also marked her career try in Garnet and Grey.
Maya Montiel, Tori Wyman, Aurora Bowie and Ritaj Abdoulla also added tries for the Gee-Gees, while Claire Gallagher notched two conversions.
The win pushed the Gee-Gees into second place in Section A of the RSEQ standings with a record of 2-1-1.
The team will now begin to prepare for a trip to Laval to take on the Rouge et Or. In their first match-up of the season, the Gee-Gees fell to Laval by a score of 28-17, but that won't affect how the team prepares for this second head-to-head game.
"We try to focus on ourselves, what we do on attack and defence without thinking too much about the opposition," Boyd explained. "Sure, it is nice to get another chance to play another team that tied you earlier in the year. The focus is we turn inward and look at the things we need to improve on, not as much on the other teams."
