The U SPORTS fourth-ranked Gee-Gees women’s rugby team (2-1-1) gets ready to face off against familiar foes in second-ranked Laval Rouge et Or (4-0-0) on Friday at 1 p.m.
The U SPORTS fourth-ranked Gee-Gees women's rugby team (2-1-1) gets ready to face off against familiar foes in second-ranked Laval Rouge et Or (4-0-0) on Friday at 1 p.m. The Gee-Gees will look to continue their winning ways Saturday at 1 in Quebec City, coming off back-to-back victories over Carleton and Sherbrooke, outscoring their opponents by 90-22.
Laval has the only win over the Gee-Gees on the season, with a 28-17 victory earlier in September.
uOttawa's offense will be tested as the Rouge et Or defense has allowed only and outstanding 20 points on the season. Fifth-year senior Michaela Haley (Ottawa, Ont.) will have to continue her strong offensive performance on the season as she leads the league in tries (9) and points (45).
First-year Maddie Grant (Cornwall, Ont.) is coming off a four-try match against Sherbrooke and hopes to continue a strong start to her U SPORTS career.
The game will be streaming live on Laval's YouTube channel, and live updates will be available on Twitter at @GeeGeesWRUG.
If the Gee-Gees come away victorious, it will help lock up a home semi-final playoff game, following a quarterfinal bye. Following Laval, Ottawa will close the regular season on October 4 against the Carleton Ravens, before a playoff push where the Gee-Gees will be chasing their sixth-consecutive RSEQ championship.
uOttawa will then host the eight best teams in the country at Matt Anthony Field for the U SPORTS Rugby Championship from October 30 – November 3.
