The Gee-Gees men's basketball team picked up another two wins on the road over the weekend. Starting with a flashy 81-68 win over the Windsor Lancers, followed by a back-and-forth 84-77 win over the Western Mustangs.
Ottawa started things off in Windsor on Friday night where Brock Newton started his outstanding weekend with a 25-point showing.
Off the bench, Justin Ndjock-Tadjore contributed 15 points while Khalifa Koulamallah stepped in and added 14.
The win was only the beginning for the Gee-Gees as they went on to battle it out with Western on Saturday night. The Mustangs were gritty in their battle with the Gee-Gees, challenging the Garnet and Grey throughout the opening 20 minutes.
At halftime, the Gee-Gees had the upper hand with a 37-32 lead.
The team pulled away after half. Newton was the dominant force for the Gee-Gees yet again, battling all sorts of contact to find the basket any way possible.
Newton powered through for two points late in the third to establish a 10-point lead for the Gee-Gees and finished the game with his first double-double of the year with 28 points and 11 rebounds on top of 6 assists and a steal.
Jacques-Mélaine Guemeta was another player Western couldn't stop. Guemeta tallied 19 points and five rebounds in win while Kevin Otoo followed with a nine-point effort consisting entirely of impressive three-point shots.
Dragan Stajic was a staple as always, reeling in 10 rebounds in favour of the Gee-Gees. Stajic was the court general, logging eight assists.
The Gee-Gees are on homecourt for the first time this season on Nov. 17 and 18, starting things off against Lakehead and Brock. Tip-off is at 8 p.m. for both games at Montpetit Hall, tickets can be purchased at https://teams.geegees.ca/tickets.
