The U SPORTS top-ranked Ottawa Gee-Gees logged two dominant performances on the weekend with a 97-69 win over Nipissing and an 84-59 win over Laurentian.
On Friday in North Bay, the Gee-Gees rode a big second half effort to a 28-point win over the Nipissing Lakers.
Jacques-Mélaine Guemeta led the way for the Gee-Gees with a 19-point and 11-rebound double-double effort in only 21 minutes of action. Justin Ndjock-Tadjore added 16 points and eight assists in the effort.
Khalifa Koulamallah (15 pts.), Liban Abdalla (13 pts.), and Kevin Otoo (11 pts.) rounded out the remaining Ottawa scorers in double figures.
In all, the Gee-Gees shot 53.5% from the field and took advantage at the free throw line for 13 points. Ottawa scored 23 points off 20 Nipissing turnovers.
On Saturday in Sudbury, the Gee-Gees logged a well-rounded affair where they climbed out of an early deficit to power to a 25-point win.
Four players scored in double figures in the win, with Otoo leading the way with 17 points. Ndjock-Tadjore logged another strong effort with 16 points on the night. Liban Abdallah had his second consecutive night stepping up to replace an injured Cole Newton, with the second-year wing scoring 14 points.
First-year player Cid Ruhamyandekwe saw expanded minutes for the first time in his young career and he rose to the occasion, hitting six of seven shots for 13 points and two rebounds.
It was once again a strong defensive pressure that caused 22 turnovers that resulted in 26 points for the Gee-Gees.
With the win, Ottawa improves to 12-0 overall this season, and 7-0 on the OUA campaign.
Up next, the Gee-Gees will take to the road again to face the York Lions and McMaster Marauders. They will be in Toronto to take on York first on Friday at 8 p.m. and move on to take on McMaster in Hamilton at 8 p.m. the following night.
