The Gee-Gees men's basketball team lost an overtime thriller 89-88 at #3 Queen's, before winning a 69-66 battle against #7 Ontario Tech the following night.
Clawing back from a 15-point deficit, the Gee-Gees battled to overtime against their rival Gaels. With both teams struggling shooting from the floor, the Queen's were able to dominate inside the paint to earn a second one-point victory of the season against the Gee-Gees. Queen's outscored Ottawa 50-36 in the paint and had 19 second chance points in the win.
Kevin Otoo led the way for the Gee-Gees with 21 points and 11 rebounds. Brock Newton added 19 points and six rebounds, while Jacques-Mélaine Guemeta (15), Justin Ndjock-Tadjore (13), and Khalifa Koulamallah (13) rounded out Ottawa players scoring in double figures.
The following night in Oshawa, the Gee-Gees once again battled back against a Top 10 opponent, erasing a 17-point Ridgebacks lead to earn a three-point win to close the regular season.
Ottawa was paced by a key 23-point and 10-rebound performance by Ndjock-Tadjore, while Brock Newton (14 pts. / 4 ast.) and Otoo (13 pts. / 4 reb.) were also key contributors in the win.
The Gee-Gees finished the regular season with a 19-3 record, tied with Queen's for first place. Due to the head-to-head losses against the Gaels, Ottawa will be the second seed in the OUA playoffs.
Ottawa will kick off their playoff push on Saturday at Montpetit Hall against the victor of a Wednesday night Brock vs. Carleton first round matchup.
Tip-off is set for 7 p.m. and tickets are available at tickets.geegees.ca. The game will be streaming live on OUA.tv.
